The whole Bangkok district would give you a diverse taste of culture, history, religion, modernity, and fast-phase life. You can actually witness how all these blend together to comprise the whole Bangkok package. Buddhist temples, historical museums, towering buildings, contemporary restaurants and hotels, shopping centers, canals and rivers, and food make Bangkok a one of a kind city in Southeast Asia.

Phuket – Down south, Phuket features magnificent beaches, tropical sunsets, white sands, blue seas, and breathtaking sceneries. No wonder it is the most popular vacation destination in Asia beating every beaches of the neighboring countries. The island showcases several water sports and activities including parasailing, jet-skiing, and scuba diving. By day, Phuket is alive with beachgoers and shoppers and by night, lights, sounds, and party people dominate the whole island.

Chiang Mai – The second largest city in Thailand with an estimated population of more than 200,000. This city located in the northern part of the country offers greener and quieter city. Chiang Mai’s tourism is becoming more and more popular and permanently settling at this city is very common. When you travel Thailand and visit Chiang Mai, you surely would want to see museums such as Hilltribe Research Institute Museum and the Chiang Mai City Arts & Cultural Center. With religion and history enriching the city, you can see several Buddhist temples such as Wat Chiang Mun, Wat Chiang Mun, Wat Phra Singh, Wat Oo-Mong, Wat Phra Jao Mengrai, Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, and Wat Chedi Luang. The oldest temple dates back in the 11th century. Chiang Mai features attractions such as Chiang Mai Flower Festival in February, Bo Sang Umbrella & Sankampang Handicrafts Festival in January, The 2nd Orchid Fair also in January, and the Loi Krathong Festival usually falls in November.

Pattaya – Located 150 km. north of Bangkok, Pattaya is one of the most popular tourist destinations, which offers great beaches, beer and go-go bars, and a wide array of sport activities. Visit Pattaya when you travel Thailand is a must. Although it is the most overdeveloped part of the country in terms of tourism, prices in Pattaya still remains with reach. In fact, prices of foods, accommodation, and transportations are very affordable.

Krabi – In a small province of Krabi lies a small town with the same name. Paying a visit Krabi town when you travel Thailand is worth the time. Located south of Bangkok near Phuket and Phi Phi island, the town features great beaches along with high end hotels and not so expensive hotel that cater tourists of different classes.

Thailand Holidays by Delia Locust

In the last few years, more and more people have been heading for the Far East in order to enjoy a memorable holiday taking in the unique sights and sounds of the region. The difference between the culture of Europe and America and countries in the Far East such as China, Thailand, and Malaysia is profound, and the experience of visiting these destinations really can be life changing in many ways.

One of the most popular destinations in the region is Thailand, and people travel from all over thee world in order to enjoy the many different experiences on offer.

Bangkok is the capital city of Thailand, and it is one of the most impressive cities in the world. It is a place that combines the traditions of the country with a modern twist, and blends ancient monuments with shopping malls and plenty of other attractions. Most visitors to Thailand will spend at least a few days exploring Bangkok as part of their time in the country, and this provides an excellent introduction to the pleasures of the country. Make sure you visit the Grand Palace with its breath taking sculptures and the various different temples that are located within the same complex.

Aside from the gilded temples and shopping malls, Bangkok is also well known for its nightlife. Patpong Road is the centre of the action in the city, and aside from the night market that operates throughout the week there are countless bars to explore during your stay.

Once the pace of life in Bangkok becomes too much for you and you are ready to relax on the beach, Thailand has a number of options available to you. Pattaya is on the Gulf of Thailand around two hours south of the city. It has a reputation for great nightlife, but the beaches are pleasant although a little crowded at the weekend. The town has plenty of attractions, but is not always seen as the best destination for families, as the nightlife can be a bit racy.

For a more refined and laid back holiday in Thailand, why not consider visiting Cha Am or Hua Hin on the other coast of the country. These quieter destinations offer plenty of space to relax and unwind, and are great for families. There are several spa retreat type hotels in the area, and these are ideal for anyone keen on relaxing and enjoying their time.

The islands of Thailand such as Koh Samui, Krabi, and Phuket have long attracted travellers from all over the world with their beauty. Phuket is probably the most developed destination in the country, and offers an extensive range of hotels to suit all budgets. The main town has some exciting nightclubs and a good range of shops and the white sand beaches are amongst the most attractive in the country.

Aside from beaches and cities, Thailand also offers a range of inland destinations including Chiang Mai that give visitors the chance to see the more traditional Thai way of life including the famous hill tribes, and also a number of elephant sanctuaries.

Thailand Destination, Heaven on Earth! by Thanakit K

Thailand lays in the Southeast of Asia. Its natural geography subdivides it into four portions consisting of mountains and forests in the north, rice fields in the central plains, arid farmland in the northeast, and the tropical beaches and islands of the southern peninsula. It is divided into seventy-six provinces which are further divided into districts, sub-districts and villages which are ruled by the king as Thailand is a monarchy. It is ruled by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej; who is the ninth king of the Chakri Dynasty. He has reigned for over half a century, making him the longest reigning Thai monarch.

There are approximately sixty-two million citizens of Thailand, with approximately seven million living in the capital city, Bangkok. The national language is Thai and often hard to understand to outsiders. English is a popular second language commercially and spoken in many shops, hotels, and restaurants with Thai/English street signs being seen nationwide. Other European languages are often spoken as well, which makes it easy to communicate with the locals. The local culture is influenced by the surrounding countries which have helped make up the traditions of Thai and provide ethnic diversity.

There are many internationally recognized placed in Thailand, such as the bridge over the River Kwai, built by Allied prisoners during WWII. There is also Buddha Mountain, a cliff face inlaid with gold into a carving of Buddha, which is the largest image of Buddha in the world. The islands are the location of novels as well as filming locations for movies. There is also the Thai-Laos Friendship Bridge which stretches into Laos. Thailand is surrounded by Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Cambodia.

Well recognized but not as well known by name are the dozens of pristine beaches, islands and other sparkling, exotic locales. Phuket is said to have one of the best places to watch sunsets at Phromthep Cape and is Thailand's largest island. Pattaya is one of the most famous beach destinations in Thailand with a rich diversity and active night life. Phi Phi was the location of the movie "The Beach" and is included in a group of islands that make up the province of Krabi.

While visiting the beautiful locations in Thailand you will undoubtedly be welcomed by the people who are gracious hosts, as well as excellent dining which takes advantage of the ability to raise produce year round on much of Thailand. Fresh ingredients are always available in most areas and the local cuisine benefits from such abundance. Shopping is also wonderful in many of the cities, with a busy night life as well. As much of the country is coastline with beautiful tropical beaches there is no end of swimming, boating, snorkeling and even scuba diving that can be done to enjoy the waterscapes. Hiking, backpacking, and exploring can be done throughout the many wildlife preserves throughout the forest regions as well as around the many archeological ruins. There is no lack of things to do in Thailand as there can be with many tourist locations.

Phuket in Thailand by Supanee Srijaivang

On ancient charts, Phuket is referred to as Jang Si Lang, appearing on later maps, not too appealingly perhaps, as Junk Ceylon . Some maintain the current name derives from the Malay word 'Bukit' meaning hill, which seems the most likely, particularly since the transliteration from Thai was spelled Bhuket for many years. Others say it has origins in the Tamil word, 'Manikram' or Crystal Mountain, although any phonetical association here is unclear. Until it became recognised internationally, Phuket (correctly pronounced Poo-Ged) was mistakenly and mischievously included on the lists of the world's "naughtiest-sounding" destinations.

Located just under 900 kilometres Southwest of Bangkok, it is similar in area to Singapore, measuring 54 kilometers north to south, and 21 kilometers east to west at its most distant points. About 70 percent of the land area is mountainous, with the highest elevation at 529 meters. The terrain is richly varied, with rocky headlands, numerous beaches of differing sizes and character, limestone cliffs, jungle-clad hills, small estuaries, lagoons, and tropical vegetation of all kinds. It is surrounded by over thirty smaller islands of similar topography, many of them prime tourist attractions in their own right. The permanent population is estimated at roughly a quarter of a million, and Phuket is the only island in Thailand to have full provincial status. The Sarasin Bridge connecting it to the mainland was constructed in the mid-1970's, and a second one parallel to it, the 660-metre Thao Thep Krasatri Bridge, opened more recently. Phuket airport saw its first aircraft land in 1976.

Unlike tucked-away Samui off the opposing Southeast coast of Thailand, Phuket's strategic position as a trading post on coastal sea routes gives it a recorded history going back a millennium or more. This has nurtured an interesting blend of cultures and influences, including Burmese, Malay, Chinese, Indian, Portuguese and Dutch, mixed with the indigenous 'Chao Ley' or sea gypsies, dark-skinned peoples thought to have originated in India's Nicobar Islands. Although predominantly Buddhist, Muslims make up more than one third of the population. As a result, Phuket is a pleasantly strange mix of ancestry and ambience, a kaleidoscope of stunning tropical seascapes and forested hills, and a fascinating combination of tin mining, rubber, and tourism.

One event in its history might have dramatically changed the island's future. In the late 1700's the British seriously considered establishing Phuket as a strategic base for their imperialistic presence in the Far East. As it happened, they finally opted for the island of Penang further south, a decision they doubtless regretted when large deposits of tin were discovered on Phuket, an asset which led to a huge presence of immigrant Chinese. These industrious people dominated the tin industry, and their subsequent generations still form much of the island's population today.

If Phuket's history provides the traveller with a rich choice of pleasurable discoveries in edifices and customs, its size and varying altitudes endows it with a variety of meteorological variations. Weather conditions can thus change unexpectedly, often refreshingly, as you travel from one part of the island to another, particularly during the monsoon. Nearly a third of the flora consists of rubber plantations, which were first introduced in 1903, but the remainder of the vegetation is richly varied, and home to interesting wildlife, which in the past included tigers, rhino and wild elephants; reported by travellers as little as a century ago.

Tourism awareness remained at almost zero until the mid 1980's when the combined presence of the newly opened Amari Coral Beach Resort and Club Med gave Phuket sudden and significant international exposure. Delighted holidaymakers from Japan, Australia and Europe spread the word, and the emerging regional "Tiger" economies saw newly-affluent Asians begin to experience Phuket's delights. The so-called 'rainy season' from May to October proved to be no obstacle to enjoyment, and by 1987 - "Visit Thailand Year" Phuket was on everybody's lips. More top class hotels followed, and the airport was expanded to take wide-bodied jets. Direct scheduled and chartered flights began to arrive from Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, and Europe, and tourism soon became the main source of income, eclipsing the coconuts, cashews, pineapples, fishing, prawn farming and pearl cultivation which had been the island's economical mainstays in the past. Most land-based tin mines have closed down due to the fall in global prices. Marine mining still continues on a small scale.

If Phuket is many people's dream of paradise, increasing numbers of foreigners are turning dreams into reality by settling here permanently, either for business or retirement, and enjoying the unbeatable blend of exotic tropical ingredients, excellent infrastructure, good educational facilities, and the reasonable cost of living. Phuket indeed, has always enjoyed high standards; by 1910, it already had paved roads and motorcars, long before other provinces in the Kingdom.

Fun in Phuket: Luxury Thailand Summer Trips

Summer is low season in Thailand, but this means that it's a great time to visit the country if you're looking for special offers on hotels, including free nights and free upgrades (both on a hotel room and for a meal plan) and also no crowds.

Phuket, which has also been named "The Pearl of Thailand", is regularly voted as one of the world's top holiday destinations. Lying just off the southwest coast, and surrounded by the warm, blue, tropical waters of the Andaman Sea, Phuket is Thailand's largest island. It is home to around 200,000 people as well as a transient tourist population.

Though tourism is now a major industry on the island, it was originally tin that brought the area to the attention of the world, and the capital Phuket Town, is still a major port, exporting tin ore, rubber, timber and seafood to the rest of the world.

The rapid growth in tourism has led to the quick development of beach resorts, but tranquil spots are not hard to find, especially when there's always a boat waiting to take you to Phuket's offshore islets, where visitors often find themselves completely alone.

In contrast to the many white sandy beaches, such as Mai Khao, Nai Yang and Pansea, the bustling night markets are well worthy of a visit; just make sure you get your haggling skills up to scratch so that you can bag yourself a bargain!

Thailand has a monsoon season which runs from May to October; when the climate is still hot there are frequent torrential downpours. Whilst the idea of rain may put some people off, others actually enjoy the tropical torrents which are unleashed from the skies. There's nothing quite like sitting under a veranda, as the heavy raindrops drum down on the roof, and enjoying the wonderful sounds and refreshing smells that the rainy season brings. And unlike rain in the UK, tropical storms don't last for long; it's never long before the sun comes out and the ground quickly dries off again.

With Phuket holidays, there are several great luxury resorts and hotels to stay in, for example Bayan Tree Phuket, a deluxe resort with a tranquil setting which is ideal for honeymooners, or those looking for a relaxing and rejuvenating holiday. Cape Panwa, an excellent first class hotel, has good facilities and a peaceful location, and the Amanpuri resort offers azure waters and palm shaded gardens. The fabulous resorts of Pattaya (just 1.5 hours drive from Bangkok) and Hua Hin on the Gulf of Siam are also recommended destinations if you'd like to see a different part of the country.

So remember, summer is a great time to visit Thailand, and especially Phuket. If you're after a great value holiday, with fewer tourists to compete with, if you want to dive, play golf, visit a spa, or just relax on one of the many beautiful beaches, you won't regret a trip to "The pearl of Thailand".

Are You Looking for a Luxurious Beach Hotel & Resort in Pattaya? by Johan Hedin

Pattaya is well known for its nightlife and beaches and is located about 150 km southeast from Bangkok. By car you would have to spend about 1.5 hours as the motorways are very developed. Starting as a fishing village, Pattaya has grown tremendously the last 40 years. The hotel industry has flourished with lightening speed due to ever increasing number of tourists visiting Pattaya (about 5 million per year). Hence, it's the most popular and profitable business of this region. For this purpose only, the right hotel with lots of offerings at low rates is very easy to find. Pattaya has a lot to offer for anyone such as theme and amusement parks, golfing, ease of access to beaches, scuba diving, sailing, para-sailing, bungee jumping, go-karts, and a very vibrant nightlife. Pattaya also has a wide variety of international cuisine as well as great sea food at the restaurants along the beach. You can also find some great bargains on clothing in Pattaya. Although not as extensive as Bangkok, it still has some great shopping venues.

The general factor for choosing a right resort at Pattaya would usually be the starting price. You can visit each hotel's official site to see and check their offerings. However, there are few points to be noted before choosing a hotel for your stay. Price should not be the only factor in choosing the right hotel. Other factors like location, services do matter in choosing the right hotel. If you want a cheap hotel yet want to see the beach from the room, then it's not difficult job to find one as there are lots of accommodations which offer cheap accommodations. But, if you plan to stay in a luxurious hotel then you need to decide about the location, as you may be expecting high quality service for the money you spend. If you have a fair budget and want all the luxuries of a hotel but also want to see the beach from the room of your hotel, then you might consider Siam Bayshore Resort & Spa located between "Walking Street" and Bali Hai pier. This hotel consists of 12-beautifully designed low-rise pavilions are set in acres of manicured tropical gardens and quiet lagoons. You can definitely feel a sense of privacy from your hotel room. Each room has a balcony overlooking the gardens, pool or ocean. This resort also offers six tennis courts for the avid tennis player, fitness room, 20 acres of lush gardens, swimming pool, children's pool, Jacuzzi, spa services such as Thai massage, full aromatherapy treatment and massage, facials and foot massage, full conference and high speed internet connection. Hua Hin Travel: Plus Chaam & Pranburi

Hua Hin Travel: Plus Chaam & Pranburi by Eirik Comm

Hua hin is the biggest of the three towns and easily accessible at only three hours drive south of Bangkok. The town itself is laid back but by no means boring; good swimming beaches, water sports, golf courses, historical sites, national parks and shopping are all available to keep your days filled. There's also some nightlife but not quite as over the top as Pattaya, making Hua Hin suitable for families and travelers in general. And it's ideal for those who don't want to make the long (and expensive) journey to Phukey or Koh Samui.

You don't need to travel all the way to the south of Thailand to find wonderful tropical beaches and resort-style accommodations. With a short distance from Bangkok, the beachside town of Hua Hin, Chaam and Pranburi on the northwest coast of Thailand make an ideal short escape from Bangkok or are equally suited as longer tropical of holiday destinations. Cool weather year round makes Hua Hin, Cha-am and Pranburi more enjoyable than Bangkok. Now we're in the middle of summer and while the temperatures in Bangkok and the North are near boiling the beaches here still average a pleasant 30 degrees Celsius during the daytime.

Once a sleepy fishing village, Hua Hin started to become better known in the 1920s when it was linked to Bangkok by rail. It developed into a popular retreat for the Royal family and, nowadays, the King himself resides at the summer palace there. (Due to its proximity to Bangkok and popularity with the Monarchy, many wealthier Bangkok Thais now have condominiums along this stretch of coast.)

Hua Hin literally means "rock head" but don't let the name fool you a few smooth boulders are scattered along the beach but the seabed itself is all sand and safe for swimming. The town is developed but still compact making it easy to walk around, and it has retained its casual beachside feel. You'll find all major amenities including accommodation to suit every budget, from cheapies in town to big name resort operations on the beach.

The famous Hua Hua hin Railway Hotel was built near the beach here in 1923. The magnificent two-storey colonial building has been beautifully restored and is now operated by Sofitel Central Hua Hin Resort. To the north, the Hilton Hotel was the first high rise hotel in town, while Marriot Resort and Spa is located along the southern beach.

Down on the beach in front of the Hilton, deck chairs and umbrellas provide a place to relax and vendors sell all kinds of things from snacks to grilled prawn. Along the beach you can get a Thai massage or even ride a horse.

If you love seafood then you'll love Hua Hin. There still fishermen operating from fishing Pier who land the catch of the day which is cooked to order and served fresh to your table at any of the waterfront seafood restaurants. You'll never find seafood this fresh and at these low prices elsewhere. As well as seafood, plenty of international restaurants line the streets, some with live entertainment. There are also a few beer bars but the atmosphere here is pretty relaxed.

While the township can easily be explored on foot some of the other attractions will require transportation. A car is always handy, but those without have a choices of day excursions which take in all the major sights, including natural attractions like Khao Sam Roi Yot (Three Hundred Peaks) National Park with its magnificent views of the Gulf of Thailand and caves to explore. Just to the south of Hua Hin, Khao Takiab Temple is located on a rocky hill with good views of Ao Takiab (Chopsticks Bay) where more beaches and resorts are located. You can also visit other beaches along this coastiline. Waterfalls and the kids will enjoy Hua Hin Zoo.

The other two beaches are renowned; Pranburi is rather new to the scene. Located 30 kilometers south of Hua Hin, this stretch of sand used to be visited just as a day trip, but now has a number of boutique-style resort operations of its own. It's much quieter than its northern neighbors, but still easily accessible to Hua Hin for those after a bit of action many of the resorts offer free transportation services to Hua Hin for this purpose.

How To Get To HuaHin:

From Suvanabhumi international Airport in Bangkok, You can take minivans and taxis to take you to Hua Hin, be careful for too expensive price. For those in a hurry, there are fights ran by SGA Airlines 3 times a day everyday. Minivans also operate from near Victory Monument BTS Station in Bangkok (Taxi fare to get to Victory Monument could be 250 baht), or air-conditioned buses leaves nearly every hour from the New Southern Bus Terminal to Cha-am, Hua Hin and Pranburi town.

When you get Hua Hin city you can get around easily by feet. However, many of the attractions outside of town will need some kind of transportation. There would be tuk tuks, motorcycle taxis, songthaews and taxis; you usually have to negotiate the rate before you get in, try to lower your fare as much as possible, driver always overcharge a tourists. Better plan your trip before you go out, otherwise you won't make it on time due to Hua Hin has many attractions to visit.

Bar Ice Samui. Tropical Ice Bar in Thailand

On entering Koh Samui's newest and most unique attraction you could be forgiven for believing you will be sharing warming laughs and vodkas with Polar Bears or Eskimos.

Bar Ice Samui baricesamui.com, the world's first tropical island -7 degree ice bar opened its doors on 15th March 2008 and already the icy temperatures have made it one of Samui's hottest attractions. However, as the management is keen to stress Bar Ice Samui is not just about Ice. With three distinctive areas it is assured the discerning can freeze, chill or warm with the coolest vibe in town.

Located by the side of Chaweng Lake, customers are welcomed in to a glittering star walled air conditioned main bar area, a welcome retreat from those humid Samui nights - with its relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff it's the perfect place to chill with friends and enjoy all your favorite drinks and sounds.

Adjacent to the main and Ice Bar there is a cozy landscaped garden area where you can share an intimate moment warming under the Samui stars. The management is keen to promote Bar Ice as a truly unique experience and "not just another bar". First and foremost we want people to have fun and enjoy themselves. People get excited when they are putting on the warm capes and furry hats and gloves. Drinking from ice glasses is something that most people haven't done and for the Thai locals just to experience below 0 temperatures is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity.

We like to offer the visitor something different. As well as creating their own flavored vodka ( some of which are out of this world) plans are in motion to introduce an outdoor bar where customers can amongst other things, enjoy their favorite cocktails served in - you guessed it- your very own ice glass The three areas are likely to appeal to everyone.

There is a small cover charge to enter the ice bar but the other areas are free to enter. Customers are welcome in to get away from the heat or to escape the hustle and bustle of Chaweng.

Currently there is a special promotion for Samui residents if they show their work permits or resident cards and for the month of May any hotel staff wearing their hotel name badge will get free entry into the Ice Bar.

So how did this project come to fruition? We spoke to Scott Davis one of the partners involved for an insight into this intriguing venue. Bar ice Samui is owned by several British and Thai entrepreneurs who reside in Koh Samui, Dubai and the UK. As Scott explains Many months were spent searching for the right location and even longer to find Suppliers, products and materials suitable for this project. What you see to today is the result of a truly international effort. Crucial elements were sourced from several countries including UK, UAE, China, Germany, Italy and of course Thailand. The dream was to create and be able to maintain the world's best ice bar. Scott explains "Although the concept of the ice bar is not new It is the only Ice bar located on a tropical island and it is also the only ice bar to be themed".

We wanted to create the complete experience of part ice bar, part museum. Much emphasis was also placed on lighting and thanks to lighting designers in the UK our customers are treated to magical lighting scenarios, colour changes and moods. Scott is quick to give credit to the many people involved in making the whole thing possible. Obviously to create something like this you need good people working alongside you.

There is so much that can go wrong particularly when importing from so many different countries, a lot of pressure was placed on all our sub contractors. Being on a small island finding the support and infrastructure for such a project is extremely challenging. Importing 40 tons of ice all the way from Canada to Thailand had never been done before. Doing something different leads you in to unknown territory and can often lead to delays but all our sub contractors performed superbly and we actually opened on schedule, despite the global logistical challenges.

Today Bar Ice Samui is considered one of the finest examples of them all. Stunning examples of Thai culture are everywhere beautifully sculpted from pure ice. So if you are living in Samui or just visiting one thing is for sure, this is an attraction that should not be missed. Good times and lasting memories are guaranteed and if you're really clever you can even take home your ice glass as a souvenir.

Thank you to bluehorizonsamui.com who provided many fine images to share with the world.

Chiang Mai city was founded as the capital of the ancient Lanna Kingdom. Today, it is the focal point for northern Thailand tourism. To enjoy and explore Chiang Mai, it is best to spend at least 3 days for your travel. That is the minimum to get that Chiang Mai experience. However, if you had only 1 day, here are some ideas for your travel itinerary to get the best of this city.

Start off in the early morning at about 8am and get your breakfast at the most famous traditional market in Chiang Mai: Warorot Market. Sit with the locals and watch them go about their daily business, shopping for groceries and others. To get here, you can take a red songtaew (pickup). Throughout the day, this will be your choice for a cheap and convenient transport around the city.

The second stop of your tour will be Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, the temple on the hill from where you can get a fantastic view of Chiang Mai below. This is also accessible by songtaew. Wat Phra That is north Thailand’s holiest temple and should not be missed. Many locals and tourists come here and pray. Don’t forget your camera as this lovely temple offers many photography opportunities. The 290 Naga-flanked steps and the huge golden chedi are popular shots.

It should be around lunchtime now and if you’re hungry, there are some Thai restaurants at the carpark further down the road that you came up on. Or you can eat in the old city of Chiang Mai, which is your next stop. Make your way to Wat Phra Singh, a temple within the old city that is surround by a square moat.

This is one of the major temples in Chiang Mai and contains the Lai Kham chapel featuring exquisite woodcarvings and northern-style murals and a magnificent scriptural repository with striking bas-reliefs.

You’d have probably seen enough temples for today and it’s a good time to rest your feet. So head on to a massage shop or even a temple to have a good old traditional Thai massage or foot massage to recharge your batteries. The price is really affordable: 1 hour of massage can be enjoyed for 200 baht or less.

After your massage, you’ll probably be hungry. Take a songtaew to the nearby Ping River where the river banks are lined with many restaurants offering fine food by the river. The tourists’ favourites lie between Nawarat Bridge and Nakorn Ping Bridge. Enjoy your dinner and drinks here with live music.

And if you’re still game for some shopping, visit one of the icons of Chiang Mai: the Night Bazaar. Roadside carts selling all kinds of goods and souvenirs line both sides of the road. The Chiang Mai Night Bazaar building houses many of the province’s handicraft shops and is popular with tourists.

And this ends your day in Chiang Mai. There are much more Chiang Mai has to offer though and travellers often stay longer than they had planned. You may do so too if you’d been enchanted by this beautiful city.

Wat Mahathat Yuwaratrangsarit Rajaworamahawiharn

This temple is among the first class royal temples. It dates back to Wat Salak in the Ayudhaya Period.
It was extensively restored by Krom Prarajawangbowormmahasurasinghanart whose statue stands on the road in front of
Phra That. On the same roadside is Wachirayan Library constructed on the size of the royal cremation of Somdej Chaofa
Mahawachirunnahit. The building was named Thaworawatthu Building and used as the National Library prior its
move to Pier Wasukree.

Thammasat University and Phrachan Pier

Thammasat University was founded after the political change from absolute monarchy to constitutional monarchy. Its architectural design with its domed building by
Mr. Jittrasane A-phaiwong was very modern at the time. It became a uniqueand outstanding sight along the Chao Phraya River together with Phrachan Pier. The pier is now a well known bric-a-brac and amulet market. Its location was once the site of Phra Chan Fort during the reign of King Rama I and Krommaluang Prajaksinlapakhom's palace during the reign of King Rama V.

A Selection of Brilliant Bangkok Hostels by Paul scottyn

There's so much to see and do for travelers on a budget in Thailand's capital, Bangkok, and finding some amazingly cheap accommodation from the range of outstanding hostels in Bangkok is no different.

With a wealth of cheap hotels and hostels available to the Bangkok backpacker finding one close to the particular points of interest or specific facilities is unlikely to be a problem.

New World Lodge Hotel

This centrally located Bangkok hostel has everything that a backpacker could hope for. Reasonably priced, the 172-room complex offers en-suite bathrooms with full facilities including piping hot showers, a fitness center, a restaurant and internet access as standard.

Offering a quiet and calm getaway from the busy hustle and bustle that is downtown Bangkok, travelers are unlikely to feel like a recluse, either. Every room offers windows and a walk-on balcony, from which travelers can soak up the capital's atmosphere without even venturing into the sweltering heat.

Should you feel like braving it, the lodge is also located within only a short distance of the famous Khaosan Road, where backpackers in Bangkok can find the best of the capital's budget travel offerings in one place.

Take a Nap Hostel

In terms of character, hostels in Bangkok don't really get much better than the aptly-named Take a Nap Hostel. The (similarly, self-describing) Sleeping Rooms are uniquely decorated with a variety of whimsical and topical themes, from a pop art style bed space to the bamboo or garishly colorful animal forest room.

Character aside, hostel features include wheelchair access, elevator and an all important tours desk. Each provides access to different points of interest across the city and country.

The famous Grand Palace, with its awe-inspiring architecture and gardens, is less than five kilometers away. There's also no shortage of local amenities, with the Robinson and Central department stores within a short walking distance. Big Johns Backpacker Hostel

For those keen on meeting fellow backpackers, there's little better than friendly Big Johns. The luxury of a bar, common room, pool table and a library make this hostel a good starting place for the social backpacker.

Free internet connection, airport pickup and a 24-hour reception area also add to the appeal of this hostel, which is also conveniently located along the Sukhumvit Road, regarded by many as the 'center' of Bangkok.

Enjoy a unique trip of Bangkok via its waterways by Pete Prinyaroje

Rivers and canals have traditionally been the lifeline of Thai people since ancient times. Today, they present a fun and exciting way of seeing Bangkok rather than usual traffic-congested, chaotic channels normally presented to tourists.

Rivers (mae nam) and canals (klongs) were the main pathways for trade and travel in most of the country for centuries. The Thai way of life is serene by the banks of the Chao Phrya, which is dotted with beautiful architecture and temples.

When Bangkok became the Kingdom's Capital in 1782 (which marks the beginning of the Rattanakosin era), canals crosscut and converged at various points across the city. Thus, the main reason why early Western merchants and diplomats dubbed Bangkok the "Venice of the East."

Early Bangkok residents lived life by the banks of the Chao Phraya River or close to it as Chao Phrya literally means 'Great King.' Today, many foreigners opt to stay in apartments and hotels along the river, because of its calming force and interesting views. Touring the waterways will give you a glimpse of the city's glorious past, especially if you take a peak at the Royal Barge Museum - where you can imagine how wonderful a royal entourage of more than 70 barges down the river would look like.

While Bangkok may be fast-flying towards technological development, the genuine charm of the waterways seem to provide an unruffled source of temperance. Perhaps the nature of the river is best reflected by the famous Thai smile and hospitable disposition.

Many boat services along the Chao Phrya connect various ports in Bangkok with northern provinces as well. River cruises are ample, with some of the best offering sumptuous lunches - look out for some of the more traditional barges such as those operated by the Peninsula and Shangri-La. Canal tours are also widely available around the busy pier of Ta Chang.

Once you're in a long-tail boat (kind of like a Thai style racing boat for passengers that is popular for touring) or a classic, gracefully moving barge, you will witness magnificent temples and other historic buildings of interest. You will see the Royal Thai Navy Dockyard, the Thai Maritime Navigation Company, the Old Customs House, Wat Prayunrawong temple, Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn), the Grand Palace, Wat Rakhang Kositaram, and the Royal Boat House.

If you have got more time, a visit to the river island of Koh Kret is also a good choice. A shuttle boat leaves Wat Sanam Nua temple, which is a brisk walk from the Pak Kret Pier and runs from 6 am to 9 pm. Basically, within the island, a community of traditional potters lives and peddle their wares for over a century. Descendants of Mon ancestry, their forefathers who arrived in Bangkok from Burma. Spending their lives perfecting the art of terracotta ceramics, tourists are very welcome to purchase their products.

However, try to stay off the river during the evening rush hour as the waterways remain a popular method of travel for much of the city's population, a clever way to avoid the infamous Bangkok traffic.

Bangkok Nightlife By Ken Marlborough

If a traveler doesn’t break government rules and regulations, the nightlife of the “city that never sleeps” is relaxed, safe and enjoyable. Bangkok features live music, cool bars, exuberant dance venues and great restaurants. Notorious places like Patpong continue to attract curious tourists to the numerous neon-lit bars, while the night markets sell clothes, souvenirs, DVDs, CDs, wrist watches and handbags, most of which are counterfeit and popular. This “City of Angels” is salt-and-peppered with a variety of places, from loud and noisy pubs, to classy jazz bars, hip hangouts and exuberant dance clubs.

The traveler can find Bangkok by night as a laid-back place to relax with a drink, enjoy a decent dinner while listening to a live jazz performance, take a dinner cruise on a traditional teak rice barge down the Chao Phraya river in the moonlight or enjoy a traditional dance performance at the Patravadi Theatre, where traditional and contemporary theatre elements are integrated into something quite unique and Thai.

The city’s night life offers scope for shopping too. Most shopping malls stay open until 9 or 10pm. Some night markets stay open until 11pm or midnight, but never later than 2am.

Although Bangkok's nightlife is to some extent notorious, recent social order campaigns and government rules and regulations have put a bit of a clamp on things for safety. For example, nearly all restaurants, bars and clubs are now forced to close before 1am.

Bangkok by night is accessible by BTS (Skytrain) or MRT (Underground), two of the city’s transit systems.

Bangkok Culture By Ken Marlborough

Bangkok's culture dates back to many centuries that it is said that archeological excavations in the area north of Nakorn Ratchasima indicate that there were people living here over 4000 years ago. Monarchy played a major role in the medieval times. But now Thailand has a rich bout of democracy with its own constitution.

The Bangkokians are a bunch of warm and friendly people, usually too polite to show offense. Yet, as with any nation, there are borders of behavior that should and should not be crossed. They take great pride in their monarchy. Visitors are well-advised to respect the reverence in which devoted Bangkokians hold their royal family. The Buddhist religion is considered sacred by Bangkokians. Monks, temples, and Buddha images are everywhere and most of the people treat them with great respect. It is expected that appropriate clothing be worn in temples, and shoes removed when entering certain areas in the temples.

For Bangkokians, the maintenance of surface calm and harmony is crucial. Loss of temper, arguing, or direct criticism are best avoided among them, because they feel it serves little purpose in any case. The famous wai is a used as a gesture for both greeting and respect. Wai requires the person to use both of his hands as if praying in front of his face. In general, it is considered to be a mark of respect to try to keep the head at a lower level than that of a senior or older person when talking to or passing them. On entering a private chamber or house, it is customary to remove your shoes. The polite form of address when talking to or about people of similar or older age are to use the title "Khun" and the person's first name.

Many Bangkokians will be too polite to comment on behaviour that is disrespectful of a fellow Bangkokian, but you should be aware that it is still offensive. Looks and appearances are important to Bangkokians. When meeting them, dressing smartly, or at least appropriately, reflects the degree of respect you hold for them.
