
This temple is among the first class royal temples. It dates back to Wat Salak in the Ayudhaya Period.
It was extensively restored by Krom Prarajawangbowormmahasurasinghanart whose statue stands on the road in front of
Phra That. On the same roadside is Wachirayan Library constructed on the size of the royal cremation of Somdej Chaofa
Mahawachirunnahit. The building was named Thaworawatthu Building and used as the National Library prior its
move to Pier Wasukree.
