Thammasat University was founded after the political change from absolute monarchy to constitutional monarchy. Its architectural design with its domed building by
Mr. Jittrasane A-phaiwong was very modern at the time. It became a uniqueand outstanding sight along the Chao Phraya River together with Phrachan Pier. The pier is now a well known bric-a-brac and amulet market. Its location was once the site of Phra Chan Fort during the reign of King Rama I and Krommaluang Prajaksinlapakhom's palace during the reign of King Rama V.
